The Italian Lab

The production phase is where design concepts take physical form. At 3to5, fabrication takes place within our Italian Lab, where bespoke production for design studios connects architectural thinking with advanced manufacturing. Our workshops bring together the knowledge of master Italian artisans and contemporary fabrication technologies, allowing complex architectural interiors to be produced with precision and material sensitivity.
Located in Italy, our facilities function as both production spaces and technical laboratories. Each project is developed through careful coordination between engineering, material selection, and fabrication, ensuring that architectural elements—from individual furnishings to large interior systems—are constructed with clarity and consistency.

Craft and Technology

Our production process relies on the collaboration between skilled craftsmanship and advanced machinery.

Master Italian Artisans
Craftsmen trained in traditional woodworking and stone fabrication techniques contribute the manual knowledge required for complex finishes and material refinement. Processes such as hand finishing and veneer matching allow surfaces to retain depth and tactile quality.

Advanced Fabrication Technologies
Digital fabrication tools, including high-precision CNC machinery, are used to produce complex geometries and curved elements. These technologies support the fabrication of detailed architectural components while maintaining strict dimensional accuracy.

The interaction between manual craft and technological precision allows us to produce architectural interiors that balance technical rigor with material character.

Prototyping and Mockup Development

For complex projects, prototyping and mockup development is an essential part of the production process. Before fabrication begins at full scale, we often construct 1:1 prototypes within our workshops. These prototypes allow architects and designers to evaluate proportions, ergonomics, and material relationships in a physical environment.
This stage helps refine construction details and confirm design decisions before the project moves into full production.

Made-to-Measure Finishing

The final character of a piece is defined through made-to-measure finishing. Rather than relying on standardized factory coatings, our finishing process is developed according to the specific material and design requirements of each project. Natural oils, waxes, and carefully controlled lacquers are applied through multiple stages of sanding and treatment to achieve the desired surface quality.
Throughout production, our quality control team monitors each stage of fabrication—from raw material selection to final pre-assembly. Once completed, components are prepared for international transport and installation.
