Inside the Italian Lab
The Italian Lab is the production environment where 3to5 transforms architectural ideas into precisely fabricated elements. Here, design concepts developed with architect and designers are translated into built components through a combination of material knowledge and advanced fabrication technologies. As an Italian millwork company, our work is structured around research, precision, and a deep understanding of materials.
Located in the Veneto region, our facilities operate as a controlled environment for Italian millwork production, where fabrication, finishing, and testing take place before components are shipped to project sites in the United States. The region’s long tradition of woodworking and stone craftsmanship informs the work of our master Italian artisans, whose experience remains central to the process.
By maintaining the entire production phase within our workshops, we retain full oversight of construction details, finishes, and material interfaces before each element reaches the construction site.

Where Craft Meets Precision
The Italian Lab process is built on the collaboration between engineering technologies and traditional fabrication methods. Together, these processes allow us to develop bespoke interior solutions that combine technical precision with material craftsmanship.

Digital Engineering
Projects begin with architectural millwork engineering, where digital models define the geometry and structural logic of each component. These models guide fabrication and are translated directly into CNC precision millwork through advanced multi-axis machinery capable of producing complex forms with millimetric accuracy.

Artisanal Finishing
Once structural components are fabricated, the work moves into the hands of our craftsmen. Surfaces are refined through traditional processes such as manual sanding, oil finishing, and hand-applied treatments that give materials their final depth and character.
Material Research and Pre-Assembly
Material experimentation is a central function of the Italian Lab. Through ongoing research, we develop construction strategies that combine wood, stone, metal, and glass in durable and refined ways. This includes the development of new finishes, composite materials, and structural solutions created in collaboration with architects and designers.
Before any project proceeds to international transport, all components undergo full pre-assembly within the workshop. This stage is part of our quality control process and allows us to verify alignment, integrated systems, and material transitions.
By assembling the millwork package in Italy before shipment, we ensure that the final millwork assembly in the United States can proceed with precision and continuity.
Architects and designers are often invited to visit the workshops during this phase, where prototypes, materials, and construction details can be reviewed directly inside the Italian Lab.
